Letting Go ... Saying a Final Goodbye ....

Several months ago I posted about a very long time friend. Her name is Dee and she has been a part of my life for over 35 years. She and her husband Pat are like a second set of parents to me and grandparents to my two children. Tuesday, October 9th was my scheduled date to visit with them and do their hair. I called there daughter-in-law in advance to be sure all was well. After speaking with her I quickly realized Dee had continue to fail in her health and doing her hair was no longer going to be possible. Instead my husband Joe and I decided to go for a visit and take our little dog Betsy along as well. They both always got a kick out of her antics and I felt she would bring smile to their faces!

 

In just a  6 week period of time Dee's health had failed so much she was confined to a hospital bed, diapers, and was lucid some of the time. However, when I brought in Betsy she smiled and in a weak voice said "hi Betsy" with a big smile on her face. I sat with her for awhile and chatted until she fell back to sleep. Her husband Pat shared with me that he was making funeral arrangements on Thursday as he felt her time was short, perhaps another month or so.

I left that afternoon with a very heavy heart and teary eyed all the way home. We come into this world as cute, cuddly tiny babies bringing smiles to our loved ones. As we prepare for our departure we are weak, not so cute anymore and feel like a burden. Our loved ones are no longer smiling and filled with joy but with heartache and sadness.

 

Here is Dee as she looked in her mid-twenties. This picture stands on the bed table next to her husbands bed. She looks so young and eager to take on the world.

Yesterday morning at 5:30 am Pat and Dee said their final goodbye. While Pat showered and shaved she closed her eyes and slipped away while she slept. As I write this I weep for myself and my loss of another loved one. I know she is now at peace and with our lord, she has gone to another world.
